Customs Union Likely According To Minister
The PM expects the UK government to follow through with the promise made in the December 2017 joint report with all the provisions of the backstop, along with customs checks at Northern Ireland ports to be put in place in the event of a no-deal scenario.
A government minister has recently recognised that a customs union with the EU is the most likely outcome of talks between Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn.
Irelands prime minister – Leo Varadkar – recently stated it would be logical for checks on goods coming in from the UK to be carried out in Belfast and Larne as a way of protecting the single market while keeping the border with the republic invisible.
Meanwhile, ahead of Wednesday’s European council summit, the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator – Michel Barnier – will be flying to Dublin for talks today with Irelands prime minister including his deputy and the finance minister.

The solicitor general Robert Buckland, risked causing further tensions in the Conservative Party, by insisting his party needed to compromise to rescue Brexit.
